India has launched its newly developed High Performance Computation (HPC) cluster ‘Annapurna’ at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) in Chennai. The newly launched ‘Annapurna’ Supercomputer is India’s 7th fastest high-performance computation (HPC) cluster.

Atomic Energy Commission chairman Srikumar Banerjee disclosed the country’s latest super computer having 1.5 Tera Byte (TB) memory and 30 TB storage space cluster capacity. The device will surely give an encouragement in academic research especially in the field of computational biology, statistical mechanics and numerical calculations. With the launch of its current supercomputer ‘Annapurna’, India took a step ahead in science and technology.

IMSc said, that the advanced device can be used in simulations and numerical calculations in the fields of statistical mechanics and condensed matter physics. Annapurna ranks 3rd below that one installed at IISc Bangalore and one at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. It is equal with the other supercomputers such as Vindhya, Aravalli and Kabru.

Mr. Banerjee has highly gratified the attempt of technical team for creating the supercomputer in a completely non-commercial domain and also said that the computer will be used only in a noncommercial domain and was developed by the users.
